Fire Incident Reported at Critical Turkish Aero-Engine Production Facility

A significant fire recently erupted at the Eskişehir campus of TUSAŞ Engine Industries (TEI), a cornerstone of Turkey’s indigenous defense and aerospace programs. The incident, which occurred within the facility’s manufacturing division, resulted in material damage, though thankfully, no casualties have been reported. TEI plays a critical role in producing engines for a wide array of Turkish aerial platforms, making the swift management of this event paramount for the nation’s defense industrial base.

Following the outbreak, Professor Dr. Haluk Görgün, President of Turkish Defense Industries (SSB), issued a series of statements to update the public and assure stakeholders. In his initial communication, Dr. Görgün confirmed the deployment of both aerial and ground firefighting assets to combat the blaze in TEI’s manufacturing section. He emphasized the absence of any fatalities, stating, “Our teams are diligently working to bring the fire under control. Developments regarding this unfortunate incident will be shared transparently, and we urge the public to disregard information from unofficial sources.” He also extended his well wishes to the TEI and broader defense industry community.

After intensive efforts by emergency services successfully brought the fire under control, Dr. Görgün released a second statement, providing an update on the situation. Reaffirming the immense relief that no lives were lost, Dr. Görgün stated, “The fire at our TEI Eskişehir campus has been contained thanks to the dedicated efforts of our response teams. The lack of any casualties is our greatest comfort. Cooling operations are ongoing, and technical investigations into the cause of the incident have been initiated by relevant authorities.”

He further underscored the strategic importance of TEI to Turkey’s technological sovereignty: “The TEI family, built upon years of hard work and engineering acumen, represents one of the most invaluable assets in our nation’s journey towards technological independence. We are committed to overcoming this challenge with the same discipline and will rapidly implement necessary measures to ensure that our critical projects continue their progress without disruption.” Dr. Görgün concluded by expressing gratitude to all institutions and personnel who responded promptly and selflessly.

As cooling procedures continue, authorities have commenced a comprehensive technical inquiry to ascertain the cause of the fire. The public has been advised to rely exclusively on official announcements regarding the incident’s progress and findings.
