Baykar’s advanced AKINCI Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV) has successfully executed a critical firing test, demonstrating enhanced operational capabilities with the deployment of ASELSAN’s domestically developed TOLUN P munition. The test involved a salvo launch of two TOLUN P munitions, both achieving direct hits. This latest trial underscores the AKINCI’s versatility in integrating and deploying a diverse array of armaments.
The TOLUN P is a 250 lb-class, integrated munition guided by an Inertial Navigation System (INS) and Global Positioning System (GPS). Designed for optimized carriage, it can be deployed via multiple weapon racks such as the SADAK 4T, which allows for increased munitions per aircraft. Additionally, TOLUN P offers a standalone carriage option, designated TOLUN SI, distinguished by its unique mounting interface.
Equipped with a specialized penetrating warhead and a hardened nose, TOLUN P is engineered to neutralize armored and reinforced concrete targets by breaching up to 1 meter of fortified concrete. Its effectiveness against hard targets is further amplified by a programmable electronic fuse, enabling precise, time-delayed detonation that can be configured directly from the cockpit.
As a cutting-edge munition, TOLUN P provides an effective and reliable solution for a wide range of operational scenarios. Its design emphasizes low collateral damage and high terminal accuracy, making it suitable for striking strategic enemy targets even in proximity to civilian areas.
Operationally, TOLUN P boasts an impressive engagement range. When launched from conventional fighter aircraft, it can strike targets up to 55 nautical miles (102 km) away. From UCAV platforms like the AKINCI, its range extends to 31 nautical miles (57 km). The munition’s guidance system ensures exceptional accuracy, with a Circular Error Probable (CEP) of less than 10 meters (30 ft).
Physically, TOLUN P has a total weight of 136 kg, including a 105 kg penetrating warhead. It measures 1800 mm in length, with overall dimensions of 1800 x 191 x 253 mm and a diameter of 164 mm. Its adaptable carriage configurations include quad-packs on SADAK 4T, dual-packs on SADAK 2T, and the single TOLUN SI variant. The TOLUN family of munitions is compatible with a broad spectrum of aerial platforms, including the F-16 fighter jet and indigenous Turkish UCAVs such as the AKINCI, ANKA-III, BAYRAKTAR TB3, and KIZILELMA.
