Turkey Inaugurates Advanced Engine Subsystems Test Center, Fortifying Aerospace Autonomy

Turkey has taken a monumental step towards bolstering its indigenous capabilities in propulsion technology with the official inauguration of the TRMOTOR Subsystems Test Center. Located within the Gebze Technical University (GTÜ) campus, this cutting-edge facility is poised to eradicate foreign reliance on critical testing for national engine projects, including the formidable TF35000 turbofan, as well as essential auxiliary power systems. The opening ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, President of the Turkish Defence Industry Agency (SSB), and Prof. Dr. Osman Saim Dinç, General Manager of TRMOTOR, underscoring the strategic importance of this development.

The TRMOTOR Subsystems Test Center, a strategic asset for Turkey’s defense and aerospace sectors, will enable the domestic validation of vital components for key projects such as the TF35000 engine, Auxiliary Power Units (APU), and Air Turbine Starters (ATS). Operating under conditions that closely simulate real-world flight environments, the facility will rigorously assess critical functions including fuel control mechanisms, air-oil separation, power transmission systems, lubrication, and high-speed endurance. This advanced testing infrastructure guarantees that verification processes, previously conducted abroad, can now be executed entirely within national borders.

Beyond its direct contribution to defense production, the center exemplifies a robust model of university-industry collaboration. It offers unparalleled hands-on learning and practical experience opportunities for students specializing in engine technologies, while simultaneously fostering academic research and development. Functioning as a pivotal R&D hub, the facility is instrumental in bringing new propulsion technologies to Turkey, significantly enhancing the nation’s technological sovereignty. The center is equipped with four critical testing rigs designed to support these complex evaluations.

During the inauguration, TRMOTOR General Manager Prof. Dr. Osman Saim Dinç emphasized the profound impact of the new facility. “We were honored to host Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, President of the Turkish Defence Industry Agency, at the opening of our Subsystems Test Center. We extend our gratitude for his unwavering interest and support for our endeavors,” stated Dinç. He added, “This center represents a significant stride for our nation, allowing us to validate the critical subsystems of our national engines and auxiliary power systems using our own domestic testing infrastructure. Aligned with our ‘National Power in Engineering’ ethos, TRMOTOR remains steadfast in its commitment to developing and establishing such essential testing facilities to diminish our reliance on foreign entities in national engine technologies, from design through to testing.”
